What is Pixel Hunter?

Pixel Hunter is an advanced visual acuity test designed to challenge your color perception and monitor quality. Your mission is to locate a single 'spy' pixel that differs slightly in color from the rest of the screen. As you clear stages, the color difference (Delta E) decreases, pushing your visual capabilities and your display's color reproduction to the limit. It's not just a game; it's a benchmark for your eyes and your gear.

Why Test Color Sensitivity?

Color sensitivity, or chromatic discrimination, is a vital skill for designers, artists, and gamers. The human eye can distinguish millions of colors, but this ability varies between individuals and is heavily influenced by monitor quality. High-end panels like OLED or IPS with high bit-depth (10-bit) make subtle differences easier to spot. This game effectively tests if your monitor is properly calibrated and capable of displaying fine gradients without banding.

Finding Dead & Stuck Pixels

Dead pixels (always off) and stuck pixels (always on specific color) are common manufacturing defects. By playing Pixel Hunter, you are constantly scanning solid color fields used in professional monitor testing. This natural gameplay loop allows you to spot screen defects that might go unnoticed during regular web browsing or video playback.

About Color Gamut

As the levels increase, Pixel Hunter tests shades across the RGB spectrum. Monitors with wider color gamuts (like sRGB 100%, DCI-P3) can render these subtle differences more distinctly. If you find yourself failing at early levels, it might not be your eyes—it could be a TN panel with poor viewing angles or limited color range.
